IS IT PHYSICALLY SOUND TO ADD A TOPOLOGICALLY MASSIVE TERM TO THREE-DIMENSIONAL MASSIVE ELECTROMAGNETIC OR GRAVITATIONAL MODELS ? ANTONIO ACCIOLY and MARCO DIAS

چکیده

The addition of a topologically massive term to an admittedly nonunitary three-dimensional massive model, be it an electromagnetic system or a gravitational one, does not cure its non-unitarity. What about the enlargement of avowedly unitary massive models by way of a topologically massive term? The electromagnetic models remain unitary after the topological augmentation but, surprisingly enough, the gravitational ones have their unitarity spoiled. Here we analyze these issues and present the explanation why unitary massive gravitational models, unlike unitary massive electromagnetic ones, cannot coexist from the viewpoint of unitarity with topologically massive terms. We also discuss the novel features of the three-term effective field models that are gauge-invariant. Topologically massive models; massive electromagnetic models; massive gravitational models; unitarity; effective field models.

Spherically Symmetric Solutions in a New Braneworld Massive Gravity Theory

In this paper, a combination of the braneworld scenario and covariant de Rham-Gabadadze-Tolley (dRGT) massive Gravity theory is proposed. In this setup, the five-dimensional bulk graviton is considered to be massive. The five dimensional nonlinear ghost-free massive gravity theory affects the 3-brane dynamics and the gravitational potential on the brane. Following the solutions with spherical s...

Liouville Dressed Weights and Renormalization of Spin in Topologically Massive Gravity

We examine the relations between observables in twoand three-dimensional quantum gravity by studying the coupling of topologically massive gravity to matter fields in non-trivial representations of the three-dimensional Lorentz group. We show that the gravitational renormalization of spin up to one-loop order in these theories reproduces the leading orders of the KPZ scaling relations for quant...

Distended Topologically Massive Electrodynamics

We extend topologically massive electrodynamics, both by adding a higher derivative action to cast the entire three-term model in Chern-Simons (CS) form, and by embedding it in an AdS background. It can then be written as the sum of two CS terms, one of which vanishes at the “chiral” point, in analogy with its gravitational topologically massive counterpart. Separately we treat pure CS electrod...

Massive , Topologically Massive , Models

In three dimensions, there are two distinct mass-generating mechanisms for gauge vector and tensor fields: adding the usual Proca/Pauli-Fierz, or the more esoteric Chern-Simons (CS), terms. Here, we analyze the three-term models where both types are present, and their various limits. Surprisingly, in the tensor case, these seemingly innocuous systems are physically unacceptable. If the sign of ...

Gravitational Dressing of Aharonov-bohm Amplitudes *

We investigate Aharonov-Bohm scattering in a theory in which charged bosonic matter fields are coupled to topologically massive electrodynamics and topologically massive gravity. We demonstrate that, at one-loop order, the transmuted spins in this theory are related to the ones of ordinary Chern-Simons gauge theory in the same way that the Knizhnik-Polyakov-Zamolodchikov formula relates the Lio...
